Carbon Footprint - Defines what a process leaves behind, what mark is left when a process is complete, what impact it has on its environment, specifically in this case in terms of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions. Chain of Custody – Used by certification bodies, chain of custody describes the process by which paper that is certified can be identified t Eco-responsible, eco-friendly, eco-aware – All are words to describe using practices that assist in the maintenance of our environment. Environmental Footprint – Defines what a process leaves behind, what mark is left when a process is complete, what impact it has on its environment. FSC Certification – Forestry Stewardship Council group that certifies paper manufacturers and printers. Certification involves the fact that they are using paper that is gathered from responsible logging methods. NatureSolv – Glatfelter carbonless paper capsule that is made from natural, renewable resources. PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification out of Luxembourg, they are the certifiers of the certifiers. They watch over FSC and SFI to make sure their certification process are up to standards. PFC - Processed Chlorine Free, also known as totally chlorine free, is a term for a new process during the manufacturing of paper that can now be done without chlorine. The previous process with chlorine created a carcinogenic dioxin which would pollute waters and air supplies. SFI Certification – Sustainable Forestry Initiative group that certifies paper manufacturers and printers. Certification involves the fact that they are using paper that is gathered from responsible logging methods. Soy Inks – Inks made from soy are more eco-friendly, but some have concerns that trees are being torn down to grow soy beans. ![]() Sustainability – In environmental terms, this describes a process that can be continued potentially forever. In other words, that resources aren’t being used faster than they are being replaced. Tree Free Paper - Paper does not have to be milled using timber from trees. Alternative paper solutions made from hemp, knaf, flax, cotton, banana stalks or other plant based materials can be processed with fewer chemicals and less energy. Vegetable-based inks – Older inks always used high contents of metal, which is bad for the environment. Vegetable-based uses very little metal, which means the ink will break down faster and leave no harmful residue.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) – Sort of a general term to describe compounds that can be found naturally, but when put together can be dangerous to the environment.
